A Realisation

Something has been brewing in the back of my mind for some time now and this morning it finally developed into a full-blown realisation.  Our home is missing something.  SCRIPTURE!!!!  Like, on the walls and stuff.

We have a few memory verses stuck to the toilet wall and that’s pretty much it! :(  I’ve been working on a cross-stitch that contains the bible verses that were read at our wedding for a while now.  I think it’s one of those “ten year projects”.  ;)  Other than that we have…..nothing.

So when I got up this morning, I started searching through the bible for the verses that talk about having Scripture around the house.  I think this is the one I was thinking of:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them upon your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates” Deuteronomy 6:5-9

So that is something I really want to start working on.  Putting up bible verses around our home.  I’ve seen some nicely framed pictures with bible verses on them at my MIL’s house.  If I’m asked, I  might even suggest something like that for my birthday in a couple of months time.  In the meantime, might have to get my creative thinking cap on (or at least get busy and finish the cross-stitch I’ve started! :) ).

Dear Lord,

Thank you for the many words of wisdom and comfort you give us through your word.  Please show me the verses you want me to display around our home.  Help me to pass on your words of wisdom to my children and to hide them daily in my own heart.  Amen.

Stitcheries would be quicker than cross stitch. You could even get the kids to design them!

My friend Joanie at Joanies in the Garden had a great idea when they renovated their basement. Once all the timber frames were up she went around with a permanent marker and blessed her door frames and window sill etc with scripture. I thought it was a great idea, and one I will copy one day when I get my new house!

Wendy - that’s a great idea to get the kids to design them. I should work on that. It would be a great way to preserve their drawing for life too.

Sharon - I love that idea. Wish I’d thought of it. Might have gotten a few strange looks in the building yard though. LOL.
